The department specializes in research in the field of applied mechanics and mechanics of structures.
It is focuses on research of plate and shell structures with regard to their durability and reliability. The outputs are focused on ensuring integrity, long service life and high reliability of piping and other thin-walled structures, including the determination of their limited states.
Another area of research includes the application of both theoretical and applied mechanics to safety, material and contract-based research for industry.
Other activities of the department include research focused on historical wooden structures, especially all-timber connections suitable for renovating historical buildings. Special attention is paid to traditional techniques in timber constructions and application of modern optical methods in the field of timber engineering.
